In last month's Arts Journal, a magazine read by probably nobody except those of us who make a living in arts related fields, the authors proclaim the death of classical music. Read the full article at: http://www.artsjournal.com/artswatch/aw-deathofclassical.htm
What are the thoughts of people in our community? Has classical music seen the last of its days? |

In fact a young friend of mine just gave me some new music which has violin and trumpet players amongst the band members. Classical music is infusing itself into new music. This shows that players are studying the classical form and those listening to a band with classical instruments in it are exposed when possibly they would not have been. This leads to further exploration of classical music in more than a few cases... I would be willing to bet!
I challenge our area to encourage students to participate in our All-State Music Festival.... that would help classical music to grow here as well. |

There is an opportunity to bring classical music into the home through the RREC organization. I've talked with Albert, the director of RREC, about providing space on Channel 17 on Saturday mornings (when there isn't a game that needs to be broadcast, of course) for a show in Marty McGuire's name, called Marty McGuire's Classical Music Hour. The show would involve young people in high school and mid school as moderators and anchors who would present a variety of classical music with descriptions. Would the RAHC be interested in pursuing this? |
